Prepared Villages

The aim is to strengthen local preparedness in rural areas through inventory, training, networking, and coaching.

About the project

The project Prepared Villages will be implemented in Vingåker, Gnesta, Flen and Katrineholm and is just starting up. The aim is to strengthen local preparedness in rural areas through inventory, training, networking and coaching. The project is innovative in that it is civil society itself that develops preparedness plans for crisis and disaster situations and collaborates with surrounding villages and across municipal borders.

By mobilizing civil society in rural areas, residents will feel safe and connected, and be mentally and physically prepared in the event of a crisis. The project will last for two years.

The project owner is the Sörmland Adult School Study Association, which collaborates with the Sörmland District Community Centres (30 community centres), Sörmland's Local Heritage Association (67 associations), Hela Sverige ska leva Sörmland, the Civil Defence Association, Forssa IK and the municipalities of Flen, Gnesta, Vingåker and Katrineholm.

– Through this project, we want to support the villages to come together around value-creating activities jointly among civil society actors and rural residents. What do residents want the local emergency plans to look like in their village? In this way, we can jointly develop locally adapted emergency plans and carry out knowledge-raising initiatives and exercises that increase security and resilience in rural areas.

The "Prepared Villages" project contributes to increased social sustainability, strengthened community and increased attractiveness in the Leader area.
