Makerspace Kungsör

The Makerspace Kungsör feasibility study aimed to investigate the possibility of starting a Makerspace (MS), a meeting place for people interested in technology, in a sparsely populated area. The project owner was MakeSpace Västra Mälardalen. The concept of Makerspace is a workshop-like meeting place that encourages the sharing of knowledge, tools and ideas.

The goal of the feasibility study was to produce a report that answered the question of whether establishing a Makerspace in rural areas was possible. If the feasibility study showed that there was potential, the long-term goal was to start a Makerspace in Kungsör.

To achieve the project's purpose and goals, the following activities were carried out:
– Inspirational meetings
– Workshops
– Development meetings with the municipality, companies and associations
– A written final report summarizing the results of these activities

The feasibility study asked several important questions: Were there enough interested parties? What did the municipality and local entrepreneurs think? Was a MS organized differently in rural areas compared to larger cities? Were sponsors and grants a better alternative than crowdfunding? Could the municipality provide premises at a subsidized price?
