We believe that it is you who live and work in the area who know best how it should develop. At Leader Södermanland you can seek support to get started!

What is the Leader method? Leader is a method for rural development with local roots, initiative and commitment at its core. The idea is that development of the place you live is best carried out by those of you who live and work there – associations, local businesses and other organisations.

 

LEADER Södermanland 2028-2034

The new long-term budget brings together several EU funds in a common plan. Leader mandatory measure for Rural Areas with special constraints. The Swedish Board of Agriculture is now working on developing proposals for measures that include Leader. Leader Södermanland will begin developing a new strategy at the end of 2026. The goal is for the next period to start in 2028.

Idea workshop and opportunity to test your idea in Nykvarn on May 25th!

On May 25th from 3-5pm you are welcome to Taxinge community centre in Nykvarn to Test your idea with us at LEADER Södermanland. Between 6-9pm we will be holding an Ideas Workshop where you can meet others who are in the starting blocks to start a project. This evening is aimed at residents of Nykvarn municipality. Registration is only required for the Ideas Workshop.

Small support

Now you can apply for small grants to develop your village.
Leader Södermanland offers several different types of small grants for those of you who want to strengthen local development, preparedness and collaboration.

Small support preparedness

We offer financial support for small projects in emergency preparedness, so that you can turn your ideas into reality. The small grants provide the opportunity to develop concrete initiatives and are based on
SEK 5,000–24,000.

Evelina Sollander new CEO

Now it's done! Leader Södermanland's new operations manager is Evelina Sollander, who most recently came from a position as a communicator and project coach at Leader Mälardalen.

On April 23, Leader Södermanland's annual meeting was held at the office in Flen. Cenneth Åhlund was re-elected as chairman. New members elected were Åsa Lockner and Elin Ericsson.

Water quality in Öljaren to be improved

Leader Södermanland grants support to projects that will improve water quality and contribute to increased carbon storage in Lake Öljaren. The project will develop a replacement product for peat by utilizing the residual products from the lake.

Digital literary audio walks in Strängnäs and Mariefred

Leader Södermanland has granted SEK 782,000 in Leader support to the Economic Association imariefred.nu to develop a project with literary audio walks in Strängnäs and Mariefred.

Sparreholm's School Garden

The Leader Södermanland board granted SEK 205,068 in Leader support to Sparreholms Utbildning AB to run the Sparreholms School Garden project.

On April 25, 2024, the annual general meeting for Leader Södermanland was held at Plevnagården in Malmköping with nearly 40 participants who are committed to sustainable rural development in Sörmland.

Ideas workshop Stora Sundby gathers strength

Leader Södermanland, a non-profit organization that works for sustainable rural development, invites you, in collaboration with Eskilstuna Municipality, to the Stora Sundby Idea Workshop on Wednesday, April 10 at 6:00 PM at Stora Sundby GOIF.

The Dream Factory in Stallarholmen

The Leader Södermanland board granted SEK 268,849 in Leader support to the Drömfabriken association in Stallarholmen to conduct the feasibility study En God Start.

Leader Södermanland is a non-profit association that works for sustainable rural development. We grant support to projects that work according to the Leader method. Our area of operation consists of Eskilstuna, Flen, Gnesta, Katrineholm, Nykvarn, Strängnäs and Vingåker, with the exception of the central town of Eskilstuna and the municipality of Katrineholm.

Once you have started to shape your project idea, you can test it here on our website. 

Expression of interest

The next step is to write a concept sketch in consultation with our project coach.

Application

If the Leader office determines that your expression of interest meets the requirements for being granted Leader support, it is now time to make an application. Our project coach will help you through the process.

Preparatory study for the development of Forssagården

The feasibility study will develop Forssagården into a central and long-term sustainable meeting place for the entire region. Through broad collaboration between associations, the church, hunting teams, residents and seasonal residents, new activities and functions are being explored. From culture and youth activities to wellness, remote workplaces and crisis preparedness. The work will result in an action plan for Forssagården's future development.

Prepared Villages

Prepared Villages is a two-year project in Vingåker, Gnesta, Flen and Katrineholm that strengthens local preparedness in rural areas through inventory, education, networking and coaching. Civil society develops its own preparedness plans and collaborates across rural areas and municipal borders to increase security, community and resilience. The project is run by the Study Association Vuxenskolan Sörmland in broad collaboration with associations, community centres, organisations and municipalities.

Nature Trail Osprey Farm Studio

The project develops a nature trail that makes the area's natural values more accessible through nature guides, information signs and features that show how biodiversity can be restored. The work creates a new meeting place with a view to a future nature school and knowledge center. Through collaboration between artistic competence, architecture and ecological expertise, both nature conservation, the tourism industry and local rural development are strengthened.

Umbrella project – Preparedness workshop

The purpose of the umbrella project is to increase preparedness in local communities in the Leader Södermanland area so that they
can better handle the initial phase when a crisis has occurred.

Ready in the Södermanland hinterland – preparedness in collaboration

The project aims to create conditions for actors in the local community to collaborate and create workshops around preparedness issues. The project will also seek forms of collaboration that involve civil society in preparedness work in the long term.

Preparatory study on distribution and storage of Sörmland apples

The project aimed to contribute to the development and attractiveness of the region by developing entrepreneurship and associations, as well as supporting and promoting the region's school. The goal was to design a joint business plan with a working method and format that suits the conditions of the countryside, and to begin implementation to achieve the goals set in the business plan.

Pre-study Löt Bike Park

Löt Bike Park is a feasibility study with the goal of developing a basic plan for developing a cycling destination with great visitor value and future commercial viability.

Umbrella project Creative and cultural industries

The purpose of the project is to promote culture, creativity and place development and, within the framework of the Leader method, implement 10 sub-projects that are carried out by local actors in the area.

Sheep on summer pasture in English Park Åker's Styckbruk

The purpose of the project is to make the English Park more lively with grazing sheep, which contributes to a more positive image of Åkers Styckebruk and a more attractive excursion destination.

Vision Skate Hälleforsnäs

The project aimed to promote young people's willingness and commitment to create meeting places that enable them to stay in the town and practice leisure activities and sports. The goal was to create an outdoor mini-skate ramp in Hälleforsnäs.

Local food in public kitchens

The project aims to increase the availability of locally produced food in schools and care. The goal is to build a digital tool to enable new business between local primary producers/processors and the public sector.

Restaurant Arkadien – a food studio based on the 2000 m2 method

The project aims to diversify the business with a restaurant that offers food based on what is grown on the farm according to the 2000 m2 method. The goal of the project is to build a food studio.
